For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Because of an eye condition, I prefer soft light. Especially in my home. To others I’m sure my house may feel like Dracula’s lair with its dimly lit lights. But the brightness of many high wattage bulbs bothers my eyes and distorts my vision. So to be kind to my eyes and to allow my vision to be at its best, I keep the lighting soft and simple.
With a new year twinkling at us just in the distance, most of us have started to turn our minds towards change. We want change that will spur us on towards meeting and completing goals and dreams. Change that moves us from where we are to where we want to be. Change that moves us from potential to purpose.
But in order to have the necessary change we need, be it changing eating habits, changing careers or jobs, changing our mindsets, or any myriad of other changes we envision for our lives, just as it is with my eyes, we first have to protect our vision.
And how do we that?
Its one thing to protect the eye’s physical vision, but how do we protect the vision we have for our future or the plans we envision with our mind’s eye?
In a word, God.
Long before 2014 ever even lived within the possibility of our minds, God stepped out on the void we now know as the universe, and He called all things into existence. Where there was vast nothingness, He filled it with purpose and gave it meaning. He dressed heaven and earth in a richness and beauty of the likes that no man has been able to duplicate only to imitate. With His Creator’s eye He saw that all that He created was necessary. Served a purpose. Fulfilled His plan. And was good.
And no matter which side of the fence we sit on regarding Creation’s Story, we can believe that the same God who planned for, made provisions for, and purposed both the things of heaven and earth, has done the same for you. For me.
A new year provides an opportunity that many of us need to make necessary changes. So whatever your vision is for your new year, whatever change you want to see take place in your life, protect your vision.
Keep it simple.
Trust God. And follow the plan He has for you. That not only makes for a good New Year, but that makes for a great life.
Happy New Year!
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.
